Break Time

This week was spring break.  Needless to say a vacation was not in the cards for the Miller's this year.  Instead we had the fun task of deep cleaning our house and also spending some time with our friends.  We were able to see friends more this week than we have in the past few months.  It was great to catch up and spend some quality time with everyone.

This week also provided an opportunity to get some much needed rest as well.  I was able to sleep in a little each day and really recuperate.  It also helped my mental state with the extra rest and relaxation.  It's pretty amazing what a little R and R can do for a person.

Next week I am going to be chairpersoning (I know it isn't a word, but I don't like chairing) the Spaghetti Run here in town.  Having actually taken part in a few races I have seen the events from both sides.  I understand what it is to hold a race, but in the past I had no idea what it was to be a participant.  I only hope that the people that take place in our race this weekend are able to enjoy themselves.  With a little luck the weather will be great and we will have some fast times on Saturday.  If you are wanting to come out and join either the 5K or 10K we will be at the Clinton County Fairgrounds Saturday morning.  The race starts at 9:00, but if you still need to register 8:00-8:15 would be a better time for you to arrive.

While I relaxed this weekend, I also was able to better count my calories and pay more attention to what was going in my body.  I did a much better job staying close to my caloric goal.  My steps were not quite what they could have been.  So when I got on the scale this morning I was not surprised to see that I had lost weight.  I was a little surprised that it wasn't more, but that's ok.  I weight in this morning at 265.4 lbs.  That's a weight loss for the week of 0.6 lbs.  I'd say that's at least decent for a vacation that included the Easter holiday.  So until next week.  Food. Feet. Water. Repeat.

Spring Cleaning!

Today was a fun way to start Spring Break...That's right folks...we cleaned the house all day. That would be the reason this blog post is a little late tonight.  However, cleaning the house did manage to net me around 6,000 steps.  I'll take that as my workout for the day.

As for the rest of the week, I only got in one workout this week, but it was for a nice 4.3 miles.  I truly think that Spring Break this week will provide me a place to refocus myself.  I only have what seems like a couple weeks until the Mini and there isn't a moment I don't think about wanting to be able to jog the entire thing without stopping.

This weeks post is going to be short and sweet so I am going to get right to the weigh in.  This morning I weighed in at 266.0 lbs.  That puts me at a gain of 1.5 lbs from last week.  I have basically been yo-yoing since Thanksgiving.  I have a feeling that spring coming around is going to help me jump start back into some true weight loss.  That fact that I am able to get back outside again should truly help and I am also excited to get back on my bike and do some cross training.

Until next week...Food. Feet. Water. Repeat.

Coffee Table Wins

It's been a petty good week. I have done a lot better monitoring my calories. Definitely better than the past few weeks. I have been spending a lot of time thinking about the decisions I am making regarding food...even though I don't always make the right choice.

As I went through the week I attempted my workouts. I pushed as far as I could but had to stop a little early on each. I'm ok with that. I guess my body was telling me I needed to take it a little easier this week. I feel I will make it further in my workouts this week but I guess we'll see what happens like always right. I think the temperatures rising will help my training efforts.  The treadmill is GREAT and I am glad we purchased it, but I need to get outside for some of my longer runs as staying on the treadmill for 2 hours is a little taxing on the mind.  I will continue to do it though as long as I have to.

Ouch!  I've seen worse looking feet ;)
As for the coffee table. I managed to walk through the living room the other day to set something down and ran my foot straight into the leg of the coffee table. I immediately went down in agony and by the end of the night, my toe was black and blue. I guess I broke it. As many times as I have stubbed my toe in the past, I would think this wouldn't be the first time but it definitely is. I haven't been running on it since, but I think I'll be able to struggle though it. Haha.

My weight for the week is 264.4 lbs.  that puts me down a pound from last week. I can tell that counting those calories accurately has obviously helped. Let's keep it up for this week. Until next week...Food. Feet. Water. Repeat.

Virtual 6-Miler

This week, I had the chance to get in two of my workouts.  I also had quite a few meetings this week including meetings about future Jaycees events and the opportunity to bring back a former Jaycees event to the community again.  I am looking forward to working hard on these things and I know it will definitely be worth it.

I also have been maintaining the tracking of my calories in MyFitnessPal.  However, at the end of the week, it showed that I was over roughly 3,000 calories.  Part of that is due to the timing of when I am entering my calories into my phone.  Waiting until the end of the day obviously isn't working.  I HAVE to make sure to get my lunch entered before I leave the building in the afternoon.  That way I know for sure how many calories I have left for the evening.

I also had a first time experience this weekend.  I was invited to participate in a weekend warrior contest on FitBit by some of my friends on there (this I have done before).  Well, after I finished my run last evening...I WON!  That's right.  And, it wasn't by just a couple steps.  I won by 700 steps. I thought I should brag a little about it so I have included my trophy.

You may be asking yourself why I titled this the Virtual 6-Miler.  Well, when I signed up for the Mini-Marathon, I also signed up for the training series as a part of it as well.  There was the option of participating in the events as you would a normal race (running outdoors with large groups of people) or virtually (turning in finish time via the internet).  Well, I expected the Spaghetti Run to be held on the date of one of these training runs so I chose to participate virtually.  When you complete them virtually you actually get a week to turn in your times as they assume you obviously aren't available the day of the run. I delayed my run one day and finished it on Sunday.  The previous run was a 3 mile run, this one was a six mile run, and next month will consist of a ten mile run. I'll be honest, I'm a little apprehensive about the ten miler next month, but I will get it done.  This week I finished my virtual 6 miler in 1:21:45.  I set the treadmill at 4.4 mph and just kept moving until I finished.  I may have been able to go a little faster, but I wanted to make sure I finished.

As you may have been able to guess based on my discussion of calorie tracking, the scale wasn't super nice to me this week.  I didn't realize the calories were sneaking up on me so quickly.  I weighed in this week at 265.4.  That is an unacceptable gain of 2.1 lbs.  I have things to improve on. Until next week...Food. Feet. Water. Repeat.
